I Cried A Lot (M. Brooks)

My attempt at writing a Johnny Cash song. Of course he would have been able to sing it so much better, ah well.

As for the subject matter I've never believed the "English Stiff Upper lip" was a good idea. Of course I'm not English, maybe if I was, I'd have written a song called "I Nearly Cried", actually that song title could work......

I guess I'm back on my feet now
After all this time
It's true that I'm better
But that doesn't mean I'm fine
They think I'm over you but I'm not
I cried a lot, I cried a lot, I cried a lot

The day you left me
I'll remember all my life
They say truth hurts
And yours cut me like a knife
And as you walked out, I felt like I'd been shot
I cried a lot, I cried a lot, I cried a lot

And what happened next
You'll never really know
I've never been so damaged
I've never felt so low
Truth to tell I really lost the plot
I cried a lot, I cried a lot, I cried a lot

If you see my friends
And they're awkward with you
Well, they saw the pain you caused me
They saw what you put me through
Unlike you, they know just how bad I got
I cried a lot, I cried a lot, I cried a lot

Like a phoenix from the ashes
Somehow I've returned
But I'm a little different now
I've had my fingers burned
If I smile it doesn't mean that I forgot
I cried a lot, I cried a lot, I cried a lot
